When she came in, she wanted further guidance about how to find actual studies/choose her topic, how to use RefWorks and then had follow-up questions regarding obtaining access to the full-text articles.

They have to conduct a survey and interpret their results and data, discuss methods they used to analyzing the data etc. The odd thing was this is for some kind of the English class. The other odd part was there seemed to be no research component required in the assignment.

Apparently, Dr, Keiser has given his students an assignment, they need to find a newspaper article, 2 articles from popular sources and 2 from scientific journals and one from a web source (and then print out copies of their sources). The student had the newspaper and web source. The topic is of their own choosing.

I showed her how to find popular articles from Masterfile Premier and then some scholarly articles from Web of Science. And saved her from photocopying in the process!

In this case, the first link just went to a list of articles in Biography in Context which were on her topic but were not by volume/issue. The second link went to a list of volumes and issues and I just pointed out to her that she would have to go back to the citation to find which volume and issue she needed.

I have also had students that tried the Find IT with Opposing Viewpoints articles which did not work. I have also showed them how to just attach the articles to their citation. I think attachments are the way to go - - much easier for the student to get back to the full-text anyway.
