The patron handed me a multimedia/course reserve request form that he had filled out. I checked the number in the DVD area, but it wasn't there, so I asked if it was a book and he said yes.

Question: The patron handed me a multimedia/course reserve request form that he had filled out. I checked the number in the DVD area, but it wasn't there, so I asked if it was a book and he said yes.

Answer given to question: First, I asked if he had been to the 3rd floor before to look for a book and he said yes. (He is a foreign student and I know he overheard me telling a couple of students to fill out the form to check out DVDs, so I think he got confused.) Then I said we should probably check the item's status in the catalog before venturing upstairs. It turned out that all of the copies were checked out. What he was requesting was "All quiet on the Western Front," and he just wanted to reread the book before his final. We requested it through OhioLINK, but in case it doesn't come in by the time he needs it, I found him a copy of the book online. Google Books didn't have it, but I googled the title + "online books" and found it on Questia. Only after he left did I realize the site was going to make him pay after a limited trial. Because of this, I'm frustrated with myself because I thought I'd found him a solution.
