Attention RefWorks Users! New Features now available

Write-N-Cite III for Windows with Off-line Capabilities

RefWorks is pleased to inform you that Write-N-Cite III for Windows has completed beta testing and a final release version is now available for downloading. This optional plug-in provides you with single document formatting (and unformatting) as well as the ability to write and format a paper completely offline! Simply download your RefWorks database from within Write-N-Cite while online, then feel free to disconnect from the internet. Full Write-N-Cite functionality is available – inserting temporary citation placeholders, viewing reference information, using the citation editor – even formatting your paper in the output style you choose. All without accessing the internet. Download the new Write-N-Cite III for Windows from within your RefWorks account by selecting Tools, Write-N-Cite.

Write-N-Cite v2.5 for Mac is Now Available
The latest Mac version of Write-N-Cite is fully available. This version 2.5 works with Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac and the Leopard operating system and has the same features as the current Write-N-Cite for Mac (citation editing, two document format, etc.). Download the new version from within your RefWorks account by selecting Tools, Write-N-Cite.

Attachment Feature Available to All Users
RefWorks has made it’s attachment feature available to all users that are part of a subscribing organization. Users receive 100 MB of default storage space (which can be increased to a maximum of 200 MB by your local RefWorks Administrator). Now it’s even easier to store your research documents along with your references! You can attach any type of file – the only requirement is that you have the software necessary to view the attachment. Grove’s Music Online, a major music reference tool, will be enhanced shortly. The link below will take you to a page that explains the changes in more detail as well as providing a link to a demonstration.

Handbook of compounding for Spenzer's Pharmacy

Prof. Canagaratna, Systems Librarian, and her staff have digitized a 19th century druggist’s compounding manual. This publication was started by Peter Ignatius Spenzer in May 6, 1889. Dr. Spenzer was a well known Cleveland druggist who died in 1896. The initial entries are in his hand writing, but it is obvious that there were subsequent contributors. In addition, numerous clippings were also included. The handbook is available online.

Global Marketing Information Database (GMID) is now available from the Heterick Reference Resources – Business page Or from the Alphabetical Listing of Databases – G

GMID provides historical statistics, forecasts, and analysis on countries, consumers, major corporate competitors, and industries within national or regional markets.

Industry coverage is mostly for consumer products and services but also includes those for industrial products in the chemicals, electronics, and industrial machinery sectors.

The types of materials covered include:

  • Compilations of economic, demographic, and market statistical data and forecasts
  • Industry market reports,
  • Consumer lifestyle reports
  • Country fact files, and company profiles.

Several search options are available including:

  • Subject/ topic
  • Industries
  • Countries - Reports and Comment for up to 205 countries
  • Consumers - Quick access to Statistics, Reports and Comment on Consumers for up to 71 countries
  • Companies
  • Geographies - Consolidates all Industry, Country and Consumer information for each Country and Region in your subscription

New Databases

The University community has access to two extensive and searchable compilations of federal materials.

  • American State Papers contains legislative and executive documents, many originating from the important period between 1789 and the beginning of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set in 1817.
  • The Serial Set contains reports, documents and journals of the U.S. Senate and House and covers the period 1817 to 1980. This material was originally published in roughly 13,800 bound volumes. Currently, the Serials Set runs to 1910 with the balance of the content being added.

Images.MD

Students and faculty now have access to an online collection of over 48,000 medical images and accompanying authoritative text. These images can be used in both print publications and online presentations. The collection is accessible from the Heterick home page under Reference Sources.

A descriptive brochure and An introductory Instructions sheet are available.

New Databases added this Summer

Heterick Memorial Library has added 16 new databases. The new databases cover a greater number of subject areas and provide more full text articles. The content of some of these new databases overlap with some existing databases. In order to avoid undue duplication and use the funds in a cost effective manner, subscriptions to some existing databases are being discontinued.
